Call an Immediate Moratorium on Homeless Encampment Sweeps
Mayor London Breed
SF Office Number: (415) 554-6141
Call Script
I am calling to ask Mayor Breed to introduce legislation calling for an immediate moratorium on all encampment sweeps, overnight parking restrictions and property confiscation.
Context
Mayor Breed has not responded to our calls to #StopTheSweeps. It's time for her to acknowledge that these city policies are unconstitutional and inhumane, and to call for an immediate moratorium.
Background
There are over 1,100 people on the waiting list for single bed shelters each night, but city officials have continued to confiscate survival gear, including tents and tarps, in violation of a 2018 court ruling that prohibits criminalization of people for sitting or lying outdoors when there is nowhere for them to seek shelter.
