My name is __________. I am a constituent, and my zip code is _______. I am a member of Indivisible SF.
I urge you to vote NO on KOSA whenever it comes up for a vote. This dangerous bill will create censorship against people who are LGBTQ+ and minorities.
Background
Remember KOSA, the dangerous internet censorship bill that claims to protect children? Its proponents are trying once again to push this bill through.
The newest proponents are none other than Elon Musk and Linda Yaccarino of X (formerly Twitter). You should be wary of any social media regulation bill they support. With their encouragement, Senators Blumenthal (D-CT) and Blackburn (R-TN), the bill’s sponsors, are making one last push to shove this bill down our throats. There’s some concern that they may try to attach the bill as a rider to any mandatory funding bills, though House Speaker Johnson has qualms about pushing a bill with such dire free-speech implications this hastily.
And make no mistake, the bill is still terrible for free speech. Despite its proponents’ claims that it’s now “content neutral”, it still restricts functionality related to multiple issues, so it remains dangerous to LGBTQ+, minorities, and anyone expressing dissent. Effectively the bill requires websites to identify people whom the service “knows is a minor” and restrict features that make certain content available to them. This can result in an age-gate (which might require proving your age and identity), but may also result in wholesale censorship of any content deemed too risky to host.
We continue to oppose KOSA and ask you to do the same.
Call your Members of Congress and tell them: We still want you to vote NO on KOSA!
This Week's US Congressional Call Scripts:
Stop Trump’s illegal deportations and renditions to foreign prisons! Free Kilmar Abrego Garcia from ICE detention
Funds to the Trump regime must be stopped - even if it means a government shutdown.
It’s time for Congress to deliver on its promises: pass the Dream and Promise Act and give immigrant families the safety and stability they deserve.
Tell our Members of Congress: no money for Trump’s atrocities. Even if that means a government shutdown
Write a letter to your Representative’s D.C. office expressing your fondest memories of PBS TV programs, and asking that they take testimonies like yours to the House floor and read them aloud into the Congressional Record.
Tell your Members of Congress to investigate Palantir’s secretive activities collaborating with Trump’s deportation efforts
Our Members of Congress—especially Senator Padilla, the ranking member on the committee that oversees ICE—need to use their powers to the fullest to limit the worst of what is already a campaign of brutality and which will surely get worse over the next three years.
We must stop the big budget bill. Our Representatives must help.
Tell your MoC’s: No War with Iran! Tell them to vote FOR the War Powers Act resolution and AGAINST any supplemental appropriations for an Iran War.
No Kings! No MAGA-regime!"
Our Members of Congress need to stand up for Senator Padilla, themselves, and our democracy.
